In my research, I consider the place of literature and historiography within colonial discourses and modes of artistic expression so as to better understand the relationship between the early modern subject and his or her representation on the page. I am happy to continue supervising dissertations in any area of medieval and early modern Italian literature — including comparative projects on different Romance languages —, visual culture, Italian 20th-century literary culture. My research is on visual culture and memory in the urban environment, on German travel cultures since the s, and on twentieth-century German literature and film, with a particular focus on the post era.
